Who Are Our Tutors?

Carefully Selected. Personally Matched. Committed to Student Success.

At LatePass.Com, we believe the quality of an online math tutoring program for grades 4-12 is determined by the quality of its tutors. That's why we don’t just hire tutors; we carefully select educators and professionals who possess strong subject knowledge, outstanding communication skills, patience, professionalism, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. Every tutor who joins LatePass.Com is chosen because they demonstrate the ability to teach, not just solve problems.

TUTORING SINCE 1999. ONLINE SINCE 2017. PROVEN RESULTS.

MEET DONOVAN SMITH — FOUNDER & CHIEF FOUNDATION OFFICER

Building Strong Mathematical Foundations. Restoring Student Confidence. Helping Families Move Forward.

When I began teaching mathematics in 1999, I wasn't trying to build a tutoring company. I simply wanted to become the kind of educator every student deserves someone who could recognize learning gaps, explain difficult concepts clearly, and help students believe in themselves again.

Over the past two decades, I've had the privilege of serving students in various educational settings, including through online math tutoring for grades 4-12. I've taught full-time, part-time, after school, during summer programs, and through one-on-one tutoring. I've worked in affluent school districts, schools facing significant academic challenges, and everything in between. Those experiences taught me something that still guides my work today.

Regardless of where a student lives, attends school, or comes from, every child wants the same thing: to understand the material, experience success, and feel confident in their abilities.

Early in my teaching career, I began providing personalized math tutoring after school because I recognized that many students simply needed more time, more encouragement, or a different explanation than they could receive during the regular school day. I wasn't thinking about building a business; I was focused on helping one student. One family. One breakthrough at a time.

As those students began succeeding, parents referred other families. Teachers recommended students who needed additional support, and schools reached out. What began with one student gradually evolved into something much larger than I ever expected.

Today, LatePass.Com has supported families across more than 13 states, helping students strengthen mathematical foundations through customized learning experiences, close learning gaps, and build lasting academic confidence.

Although our reach has expanded, our mission has never changed. We still believe that every student deserves personalized instruction, patient guidance, and an educator who believes in their potential.

Why I Transitioned Into Leadership

In 2022, I made one of the most important decisions of my career. I stepped away from tutoring students personally so I could help many more students than I could reach alone. As Founder and Chief Foundation Officer of LatePass.Com, my responsibility shifted from teaching every lesson to building systems, instructional standards, and an educational culture that supports every student we serve.

Today, I recruit and mentor tutors, oversee instructional quality, develop tutor training and onboarding programs, and match students with educators who fit their learning style. I ensure every family receives the same level of care and professionalism that has guided my career since 1999.

Although I no longer teach every student personally, my educational philosophy is reflected in every tutor we hire, every learning plan we develop, and every family we serve. In many ways, my classroom simply became much larger. Instead of helping one student at a time, I now lead a team of dedicated educators who have collectively helped hundreds of students build stronger academic foundations over the years.

Education, Experience, and Leadership

My approach to education is grounded in both academic preparation and real-world experience. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics (Statistical Analysis) and a Master of Science in Curriculum Design, Instruction, and Technology from the University at Albany, State University of New York. These degrees provided a strong foundation in mathematics, curriculum development, instructional design, and educational technology.

Beyond education, I have served in leadership positions across other industries, experiences that strengthened my skills in organizational leadership, team development, systems thinking, communication, and operational excellence. Those leadership experiences continue to influence how I build LatePass.Com not simply as a tutoring company but as an organization committed to consistency, accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional service for every family we serve.

My Teaching Experiences

Throughout my career, I have proudly served students in diverse settings including:

✅ Ombudsman Educational Services (Marietta, Ga) (HS & MS)

✅ Fulton County Schools (Roswell, Ga) (HS)

✅ New York City Department of Education (HS & MS)

✅ East Ramapo Central School District (Suffern, NY) (MS)

Working across these educational environments has given me a deep appreciation for the unique challenges every student faces and the importance of meeting learners exactly where they are.

A Commitment to Every Family

I understand that choosing a tutor is one of the most important educational decisions a family can make. You're trusting someone with more than homework; you're trusting them with your child's confidence, academic growth, and future opportunities. That responsibility is something I take seriously every single day.

Whether your child needs to rebuild foundational math skills, complete a summer math packet, prepare for advanced coursework, or simply regain confidence in the classroom, my commitment remains unchanged.

To lead with integrity. To teach with purpose. To support families with honesty and professionalism.

And to ensure every student who joins LatePass.Com receives the encouragement, structure, and personalized instruction needed to reach their full potential.

Thank you for considering LatePass.Com. It would be an honor to become part of your child's educational journey.

Find the Gap. Strengthen the Foundation. Build the Confidence.
